Material & Care
Wooden Furniture:
We use a variety of high-quality woods including teak, oak, walnut, and mahogany.
Each type of wood has unique grain patterns and natural variations in colour, making every piece of furniture one-of-a-kind.
Maanavi Homes enhances the beauty of the wood surface with a multi-step finish using lacquer-based products. This finish is vulnerable to damage from moisture, heat, and contact with alcohol-based and oil-based products.
Avoid allowing alcohol-based products, including some cleaners, nail polish, and perfumes, to come into contact with your wood furniture, as they can dissolve the finish, requiring professional repairs. Alcohol, perfume, after-shave, and medication can cause severe damage to the finish.
Fingerprints, perspiration, and oils can harm the finish over time, especially on wooden chairs. Regular cleaning is recommended.
Avoid commercial cleaning products; their long-term effects can be harmful to the wood, even if immediate results seem positive.
Care:
- Dust Regularly: Use a soft, dry lint-free cloth to dust your wooden furniture regularly.
- Clean Spills Immediately: Use a damp cloth to wipe up spills right away. Dry the surface thoroughly afterward.
- Use Coasters and Mats: Protect surfaces from hot or cold items, which can cause rings or marks.
- Moisten the cloth slightly to make the dust adhere, but ensure it is not so damp that it wets the wood. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain.
HUMIDITY AND TEMPERATURE CHANGES
Wood is highly sensitive to changes in relative humidity. As the weather changes, so does the relative humidity in your home, affecting the moisture content of the wood in your furniture. Try to maintain stable humidity conditions in your home.
Wood is most likely to crack when the climate changes suddenly from hot and humid to cool and dry. Keep furniture away from heat sources such as radiators, heat runs, or fireplaces.
If furniture must be placed near an air duct, avoid direct exposure to the airflow.
SUNLIGHT
Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight, as ultraviolet rays can damage the finish and bleach the wood underneath. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause exposed areas to look faded.
Most modern furniture is finished with a durable lacquer for protection. All timbers can change slightly when exposed to light, with some tending to darken and others to lighten. To avoid noticeable patches, change the position of ornaments or other objects regularly, especially in the first year.
Marble & Stone:
Marble is a pure, natural product, which makes it a porous material. Being a soft stone, Marble furniture is susceptible to etching and staining if not properly protected. Regular care is essential to maintain the longevity and smoothness of the stone.
- Clean Gently: Use a soft cloth and mild soap with water to clean stone surfaces. Avoid allowing acidic solutions to come into contact with marble. Do not use cleaning products such as vinegar, lemon juice, or other harsh cleaners containing acid.
- Seal Regularly: Apply a stone sealer to protect against stains and spills.
- Use Trivets and Mats: Place trivets or mats under hot dishes to prevent heat damage.
- Prompt cleaning of the surface after it becomes soiled reduces the risk of lasting residues.
- The best method to clean marble is by wiping the surfaces with warm, soapy water using a nonabrasive sponge or soft cloth. However, this will not remove etching marks or stains that have permeated the surface.
